Jamey Aebersold is a pioneer in jazz education. His collection of "play-along" jazz publications has standardized the approach to learning improvisation for students of jazz music. His camps and workshops feature the top performers and clinicians in the world of jazz. Jamey's generosity is legendary among arts organizations both in Southern Indiana and in Louisville. Through The Arts Council of Southern Indiana he is funding a series of jazz education programs in the schools of Floyd, Clark, Jefferson, and Harrison counties for elementary through high school students. These programs will feature well-known local musicians like Steve Crews, Tyrone Wheeler, Jonathan Higgins and Jamey Aebersold himself. This program has the potential to develop a student's interest in jazz as an art form as well as building an awareness in what is involved in making a career in the jazz field. According to Jamey, "Jazz allows people to express their individuality, creativity, and imagination. It takes discipline and dedication but the rewards are fantastic." If your school would like to be included in the jazz education program series, please contact Edie Luther, Program Manager, eluther@artscouncilsi.org, or download a brochure with application here."By bringing first-class musicians into our elementary classrooms,
the Arts Council has enabled our students to enjoy music that they might
never have experienced otherwise." |
