The Art Merit Award

The Arts Council of Southern Indiana takes pride in recognizing the talents and achievements of local students through the Art Merit Award Program. These $500 awards are presented annually to four high schools at their spring awards presentations.

Seniors enrolled in Floyd Central, Graceland, New Albany, and Providence high schools are eligible to apply. A school faculty member must nominate students for The Art Merit Award or, if self-nominated, applications must be accompanied by a faculty recommendation. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

· Demonstrated excellence in the performing or visual arts.
· A commitment to continue their arts education.
· A minimum overall grade point average of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale).
· A minimum arts grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0)

Applications for The Art Merit Award are distributed to schools in March. Up to three applications from each school are submitted to The Arts Council for consideration. Art Merit Award recipients will be notified during the first week in May.

Additionally, the Ed Adams Musical Arts Scholarship, a $1,000 award, is presented annually to the one student at Floyd Central High School or New Albany High School who receives the highest score in academics, school service, musical talent, and, the most outstanding recommendation from their teacher.
