Young
Artist Piano Competition and Keyboard Kaper
The Young Artist Piano Competition and Keyboard Kaper
take place in March at the Ogle Center on the campus of
Indiana University Southeast. These programs are designed
to give young pianists in our region the opportunity to
perform and compete with other talented musicians. Both
programs are offered to students in Clark, Floyd, Harrison,
Jefferson, Scott and Washington counties in Indiana.
Young Artist Piano Competition
The Young Artist Piano Competition is open to Junior High
and Senior High School students. Required repertoire-
two memorized compositions from any two of the following
periods: Baroque, Classical, Romantic or Contemporary.
Finalists compete in a free, public performance later
in the day, which ends with the presentation of cash awards
for first and second place winners in each division. All
participants receive written evaluations from the adjudicators.
To see specific requirements, you may download
a PDF version of the brochure
and application or contact the Arts Council to request
a brochure and application in the mail.
Keyboard Kaper
Keyboard Kaper is a non-competitive program designed
to give students who are not ready to compete the opportunity
to perform for a judge and receive an evaluation. Each
student performs two contrasting compositions from memory
and a scale in the key of each piece. Students receive
certificates of participation and written
evaluations from the adjudicators. You may also download
a PDF version of this brochure
which includes an application.
